About Wandering Shepherd

Wandering Shepherd is a western Kansas livestock startup building practical animal-tech solutions that work in real ranch conditions. Our wireless rumen bolus helps producers monitor cattle health and performance. We’re scaling production and need careful, reliable assembly technicians who take pride in quality.

What You’ll Do

  • Assemble wireless rumen bolus units on a structured production line using written work instructions.
  • Handle and integrate small electronic components (battery, PCB, antenna, sensors) into bolus housings.
  • Perform precise steps such as:
    • component placement and alignment
    • wiring/connector seating
    • sealing and potting/encapsulation
    • final closure and torque checks
  • Conduct in-process inspections (fit, seal integrity, part orientation, cosmetic defects).
  • Run simple functional tests (power-on checks, wireless signal/ID verification, basic calibration steps).
  • Label, batch, and package finished boluses for inventory and shipment.
  • Record serial numbers, test results, and production counts accurately.
  • Maintain a clean, organized workstation and follow ESD/handling and safety standards.
  • Flag defects immediately and help troubleshoot root causes with the Production Lead.

Why This Role Matters

These boluses operate inside cattle for long periods in harsh conditions. Precision and seal quality matter. Your work directly impacts animal safety, product reliability, and customer trust.

What We’re Looking For

  • Comfort with repetitive, detail-intensive assembly work.
  • Strong hand-eye coordination and steady fine-motor skills.
  • Ability to follow step-by-step procedures without skipping or improvising.
  • High reliability: on time, consistent output, low error rate.
  • Basic math and recordkeeping ability.
  • Able to stand for long periods and lift up to 40–50 lbs.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in electronics, small-parts assembly, medical device, aerospace, or rugged hardware manufacturing.
  • Soldering, crimping, potting/encapsulation, or waterproof sealing experience.
  • Familiarity with basic QA concepts: pass/fail criteria, rework logging, batch traceability.
  • Lean / 5S production experience.

Pay & Benefits

  • Competitive hourly wage based on experience.
  • Overtime opportunities during demand surges.
  • Paid time off.
  • Training on product, tools, and quality standards.
  • Growth path into Lead Tech, Quality Tech, or Production Supervisor roles.
